The Ascension Center is a specially designed yurt that embraces those nearing the end of life with a sense of comfort and warmth. It was created in response to a societal need—a vision for a new way to experience both life and death. Here, the goal is to support the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—as they embark on a journey into the unknown. In this safe space, the dying guest is invited to let go of fear and grief along with their physical form.
No matter how we perceive death—whether as an ending, a new beginning, a chance to start over, or even a spiritual evolution—we experience only one full-body death in life. Although parts of us may fade away gradually (cells, stars, nature), the complete death we face is singular. Much like a butterfly emerging into a new existence, we too have the opportunity to transition into a different realm of being.
For those facing active dying, the Ascension Center is here to honor your wishes and support your journey. We meet you where you are, offering love, safety, and a space to truly be yourself. Our support extends to exploring the aspects of your death, finding guidance as you come to terms with loss and grief, and helping families and loved ones find peace. Through rituals, compassionate care, education, and attentive listening, we nurture those navigating the natural process of dying.
The Ascension Center operates as a nonprofit, community-driven effort. It is an unincorporated venture run by the community, for the community. All costs and incomes are reinvested directly into the Center, ensuring that our mission remains focused on supporting the dying. As death doulas, we offer care and assistance to those at the end of life, drawing on the strength and compassion of the wider community.
